Water treatment

RO water filtration for ice vending machines

Water treatment is one part of the ice-making system. Confirm the final treatment specification and maintenance plan for your feed water and operating location.

What the referenced system includes

The bagged-machine proposal describes municipal tap water passing through PP filtration, GAC activated carbon, CTO carbon, fine PP filtration and an RO membrane. It lists a referenced pure-water capacity of 600 GPD per 24 hours; request the final treatment model and its rating conditions.

The cup model is described with RO and UV treatment. Do not assume its treatment system is identical to the bagged model or that a particular UV configuration is standard on every machine.

Verify the incoming water and site connections

  • Provide the supplier with the available feed-water information and any required local test results.
  • Confirm pressure, flow, temperature, connection sizes and whether additional pretreatment is needed.
  • Ask for the actual RO recovery and reject-water specifications to size the approved drain and estimate water costs.
  • Have a qualified local installer review connections and any required backflow/drainage protection.

The referenced bagged brochure states raw-water pressure of at least 0.1 MPa. That single value does not define every required operating condition or establish suitability for an untested water source.

Set a documented filter and cleaning plan

Ask for approved cartridge and membrane part numbers, startup flushing instructions, monitoring checks and replacement criteria. Use the maintenance planning framework to record service dates and assigned responsibilities.

Replacement needs depend on feed-water quality, consumption and manufacturer instructions. Do not infer a fixed service life from the tank capacity or daily ice rating. Cleaning and sanitizing the ice path remain separate tasks.

Avoid unsupported water-quality claims

RO is a treatment process, not a blanket guarantee of compliance or certification. Food-contact materials, water treatment, cleaning practices and local operating requirements must be considered together. Do not treat a component’s CE marking or stainless-steel specification as proof of complete US approval.

Ask an appropriate local professional or authority which water/ice testing and operating practices apply. We can supply the actual equipment information for review; we do not publish unverified NSF, UL or FDA approval claims.

Include treatment in operating costs

Budget for feed and reject water, filters/membranes, cleaning supplies and service visits using site-specific information. Include those costs in the ROI calculator rather than relying only on the purchase price of the machine.
